Renters Insurance. Why do you need it?
Typically when you rent an apartment or a home, your landlord 's insurance only covers the building or the structure. It does not provide coverage for your personal belongings, nor liability defense costs or coverage for damages resulting from injuries to others that you may be found responsible for.
In addition to protecting yourself and your belongings against the risk of fire or personal liability, renters insurance can also afford you coverage for perils such as lightning, windstorm, hail, explosion, riot, civil commotion, aircraft, vehicles, smoke, vandalism, malicious mischief, burglary, breakage of glass, falling objects, accidental discharge of water, or even animal liability.
A renter’s policy can also pay expenses incurred in the event that a fire in the building prevents you from going back to your apartment. Earthquake coverage and coverage for valuables can also be added to your renter’s policy. For the financial protection it affords you, a renter’s insurance policy is relatively inexpensive and affordable. |
